DAY 01
Arrive in Halifax, pick up your rental vehicle and explore this maritime city. First settled in 1749,
Halifax today is Nova Scotia's capital and the largest city in Canada's maritime provinces. Visit Pier
21 (admission included), a National Historic Site that was once Canada's "front door" to over a million
immigrants, wartime evacuees, refugees, troops, war brides and their children. Overnight in Halifax.

DAY 02
A full day in Halifax. Explore the boutiques, pubs and caf,s of Privateer's Wharf and Historic Properties,
tour the Bluenose II (see the "tails" side of a Canadian dime for a picture of the Bluenose I).
Get a terrific view of the city from the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site (admission included)
and visit Yort Redoubt National Historic Site (admission included), a 200 year old fortification overlooking
Halifax Harbour. Overnight in Halifax.

DAY 03
Head south to Digby, visiting Peggy's Cove and historic Lunenburg en route. Peggy's Cove is a small
village with houses built right into the granite rock and a lighthouse overlooking the Atlantic.
Old Town Lunenburg, a World Heritage Site, is a lovingly restored Victorian town that begs you to
wander and explore. Digby is a popular summer resort town and home to a flourishing scallop-fishing fleet.

DAY 04
Begin your day with a visit to Fort Anne National Historic Site (admission included)
and Port Royal National Historic Site (admission included), two early settlements - one British
and one French. Return to Digby and board The Princess of Acadia ferry (pre-booked and included)
across the Bay of Fundy, a narrow body of water that experiences some of the world's highest tides.
Overnight in St.Andrews.

DAY 05
Before departing St. Andrews, visit the St. Andrews Blockhouse National Historic Site (admission included),
a two storey structure of hand-hewn timbers, built to defend against American invasion. Take a scenic drive through
New Brunswick's lovely farmland via Fredericton, twenty minutes outside the city is the King's Landing Historical
Settlement (included). Then continue to Saint John - Canada's oldest city. Stop at Old City Market
(admission included), a National Historic Site farmer's market that is the oldest Common Law Market in Canada.
Overnight in Saint John.

DAY 06
Depart Saint John this morning and visit Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site (admission included),
completed in 1815 and used as a military installation until 1946. Take in Fundy National Park, especially the visitor
centre with displays and information on marine life and the bay's amazing tides - take a beach walk. Your next stop is
the Fort Beausejour National Historic Site (admission included). Continue on your way to Confederation
Bridge, a 13-km long link from the mainland to Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island.

DAY 07
Explore Charlottetown site of Canada's birthplace - Province House National Historic Site
(admission included) which was the scene of meetings that led to the formation of Canada
as a country in 1867. You can explore picturesque Prince Edward Island National Park on the island's
north shore - see sand dunes, beaches and Green Gables (admission included), fictional home of
Anne, the character created by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery and loved by millions worldwide.
Overnight in Charlottetown.

DAY 08
Catch a ferry (ferry fare for car and passengers included) across the Northumberland Strait to
Pictou, then drive to Cape Breton Island, a little piece of Scotland in North America. The windswept moors
and rugged coastline are beautiful, the island's people are hospitable and always ready with a fiddle tune
or a story. Overnight in Ingonish.

DAY 09
Explore the fabulous Cabot Trail around Cape Breton Island for dazzling views of the Gulf of St.
Lawrence. The route winds through Cape Breton Highlands National Park (admission included) -
and don't miss the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site (included) in the village of
Baddeck, a museum dedicated to the life and inventions of this fascinating man - who spent his summers
here on the shores of the Bras d'Or. Overnight in Sydney.

DAY 10
A full day to discover Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site (admission included).
This incredible "living museum," largest historical reconstruction in North America, is an impressive
restoration of a French garrison town dating from the 1700's, complete with costumed interpreters who
re-enact daily life from the French colonial period. You can even sample period food in the restaurant,
or take part in a mock battle. Overnight in Sydney.

DAY 11
A full day for the return trip to Halifax along the scenic Bras d'Or Lakes Drive to the Canso Causeway
to enter mainland Nova Scotia. At the community of Antigonish, travel southwest along Marine Drive.
Overnight in Halifax.

DAY 12
Conclude your tour by returning your rental vehicle.
